A perfect finish of the Yngling World Championships 2016 for the organizing Union Yacht Club Wolfgangsee and the local crew Rudi Mayr / Anna Boustani / Philippe Boustani (all UYC Wg). After a tough fight during 10 races against the dutch team of Gert Roukema, Rudi Mayr and his team secured the title of World champion in the Yngling Class in the last race of the day. The 2 last races (of 10 scheduled) were sailed under perfect weather an wind conditions today to complete the whole planned series of the Yngling World Championships. For Rudi Mayr it is the second world champion title after winning it 16 years ago in Denmark (2000/Skotstrup). On the third place the next dutch team (NED 335) of Kai Moorman, winning also the title of Yngling Youth World Champion as best youth team.
Race day 3 brought sunny and warm weather, but still light thermical winds, very shifty and therefore difficult sailing. Time for the best Yngling Sailors to proof their sailing skills and tactical routine to handle these conditions. Dutch sailor Gert Roukema (NED365) showed this very very well and is still on top of the scoreboard with a 8-6-7 series today (17 points), closely followed by local sailor an former Yngling world champion Rudi Mayr / AUT 299 (UYC Wolfgangsee). Mayr won the first race of today and finished two times on 5th place, has now also 17 points overall. On third place - the next dutch team - Kai Moorman /NED 335 with 22 pts. overall and a solid series of 7-8-3. The 59 Yngling crews are now enjoying their "World cup Gala Dinner" in a warm and nearly full moon like caribbean evening, accomponied by the music of Traisonic!
Weather improved on race day 2 to a perfect summer day, but the expected thermical winds were still light. At the end 2 races could be completed.
NED365 / Gert Roukema is in the lead (3/1), followed by NED336 / Jan Deen (2/10). On third place the best Austrian boat AUT 276, former world champion, Wolfgang Riha (6/8).
On a remarkable 5th position we find the second Austrian an first youth team, Anna Luschan from UYC Wolfgangsee finished on 3rd place in the second race (1st race: 13th).
As the weather will be still sunny on wednesday, thermical winds are expected to come earlier and hopefully a bit stronger today.
